kills to kisses
Praised as “Bjork-like” and “innovative” by the New York Times, kills to kisses is Ms, Dowling's solo project and alter ego. Wanting to give her beloved instrument a fresh voice, she created kills to kisses to showcase the unique and surprising capabilities of an instrument that is usually not recognized for its virtuosity. Her music is bass-centric, but not in the ways you would expect; luscious, pulsating melodies soar over funky bass riffs and electronic drones creating a “brusquely subtle or exquisitely dense” (Inanna Naked) cinematic language that will beg of your hips. Her mastery of looping technology, "dynamic and powerful" voice (New York Music Daily), and serious chops create a veritable tour-de-force that will beg of your hips. Kills to kisses has been presented at the Berkshire Fringe Festival, the Contagious Sounds Series and regularly performs in and around NYC. Ms Dowling's debut album under this guise is now available on iTunes, spotify and bandcamp. Buy it here.
Concert Black is a new music outfit that draws upon its members’ diverse musical backgrounds for their song writing, improvisation, and commissioning of today’s emerging composers. The group has fashioned an individual sound through surprising instrumental combinations: layered loops and bass harmonics are interwoven with flute melodies, punctuated by drums, and tied together with ethereal three-part vocals. Concert Black has been featured on music festivals and concert series throughout the country, including Contagious Sounds (NYC), Music With a View (NYC), Ear Heart Music (NYC), Berkshire Fringe (VT), and Color Field Festival (WI), as well as the Wild Shore Festival for New Music (AK) and Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival (AK). Concert black is percussionist Owen Weaver, flutist Domenica Fossati and bassist Lisa Dowling.
